How to Import Alloy Wheels from China: The Wholesale Buyer’s Guide (2026)

“We tried Chinese wheels once. Never again.” Every importer has heard that story — and behind most of them are the same five preventable mistakes. This guide is written from the supplier side: what a professional wheel exporter should do for you before, during and after a container.

The five mistakes that ruin first orders

  1. No fatigue test report per mold. A mold that passes radial fatigue and salt-spray testing is a mold you can warranty. Ask for the test report before asking for the price.
  2. No pre-shipment inspection. SGS or BV inspection before loading costs a few hundred dollars and eliminates the “half the container was scratched” conversation forever.
  3. Wrong center bore for the market. A 5×112 wheel with the wrong CB for a Mercedes hub arrives vibrating. Fitment tables with exact PCD/ET/CB per SKU are non-negotiable.
  4. One container, one PCD. Freight suicide. Mixing 5×112, 5×114.3, 5×120 and 6×139.7 in one 40ft is standard practice and cuts landed cost per wheel dramatically.
  5. No paperwork for regulated markets. JWL/VIA, DOT or SASO documents per mold — ask which certifications the factory holds for your destination market before wiring the deposit.
