Every wheel wholesaler gets asked the same question by shop owners: “What’s the difference between cast and forged?” Here is the version you can send to your customers — and the version for your own buying decisions.
Gravity & low-pressure casting
Molten aluminium poured into a mold. Cheapest to produce, easiest to offer in complex designs, perfectly adequate for daily-driver replacement programs. Weight is the trade-off. This is the volume workhorse of the aftermarket — most of our 18-inch stock program is cast.
Flow-formed (rotary forged) barrels
The barrel is spun and rolled at high temperature, aligning the aluminium grain — approximating forged strength at a mid-range price. Best margin-to-value product for wholesalers: lighter than cast, far cheaper than forged, and the story (“same technology as OEM performance wheels”) sells itself.
Fully forged (6061-T6)
A billet pressed under thousands of tons, then CNC-machined. Highest strength-to-weight, highest price. The market: performance shops, luxury SUV owners, and buyers in the Gulf who simply want the best. Forged lines carry the deepest customization — any PCD, ET and finish.
Comparison for buying decisions
| Construction | Weight | Strength | Relative cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cast | Heavier | Good | $ | Volume replacement, fleet |
| Flow-formed | Medium | Very good | $$ | Performance aftermarket, margin winners |
| Forged | Lightest | Best | $$$$ | Premium, custom fitments |
The practical answer for a wholesaler
Stock cast for the volume fitments, flow-formed as the upsell story, and quote forged on demand. That mix maximizes turns per container and keeps every customer tier covered. Our lines are organized exactly this way — ask the fitment desk for the current construction-by-SKU table.
